Horse And Rider Adoptables - CLOSED

Published:

Description

When asking what people would like to help me raise some points, someone said they'd like more character adopts; not just blank slate designs. So - having taken me way longer than planned, but what's new? - have some 'Horse, rider and tack sets'.

RULES
-For use on dA only. HARPG or RP stables preferred, but can be OCs.
-Not for use on other sites in any way (Howrse, gaiaonline etc)
-I don't reclaim designs but please, please, if you no longer want them/can't draw them, return them. (alternatively, note me if you want to sell them yourself/just want the horse/person etc).
-No killing them off. Inflicting injury for plot purposes is allowed, but it would be nice if they weren't permanently damaged without good reason.
-I must be credited for the designs and initial character on whatever reference(s) you create. If you don't create references for the humans, please mention them somewhere on the horse's reference.
-You are buying the characters and this should be respected.

Note: Because you are buying characters, it means that they will have names, ages, backstories and relationships with their humans already. You are welcome and encouraged to expand on and develop them, but do not just ignore it. (IE, buying #5 and promptly entering her into dressage, when she's clearly shown to be western backed).

If you really like one of the 'sets' but are put off by something small - a name, the age - feel free to talk to me. No promises, but you can ask :) Otherwise, no alteration of any of the given details unless otherwise stated.

Think of this like selecting new boarders at your stable.

A person asks if you have a free stall, and if you like what you see, you loan it out to them, but they will turn up with their horse, who has a breed, history, discipline, haircut and whatever else already with them. (this is just an example - you're free to integrate these characters however you see fit; boarders, new staff, a neighbour, relative of an employee and so on).

Also Note: Tack items seen here are based on existing pieces of equipment. As a result, you can't expect to be the only person ever allowed to draw these particular designs. Just something to be aware of.

#1 DreamCatcher-Stable

Horse Name: Kiri [Maori: “Tree bark/skin of a tree”]
Age: 6
Height: 14.3hh
Breed: German Riding Pony
Gender: Mare
Colour: Dark Bay
Markings: Stripe and fleshmark, one pastern and one coronet with ermine marks
Genetics: EE/Aa
Discipline: English Side Saddle; parades and dressage competition. Competes regularly over summer and in consistent work.
Tack: Snaffle mouth with a grackle noseband and V shaped drop browband in lilac. English near-side side saddle with balance strap and suede seat panel. Lilac cotton saddle pad with a white foam riser. [obviously this saddle looks different from the other side. You can google side-saddles for reference if you're not familiar with them]
Current Clip:
Blanket clip with full head left on. Done early October. Starting to grow out but still visible.
General Manners and Under Saddle:
[Ask if you want my input. I’m more than happy to give you my draft personalities. Otherwise you can choose but keep in mind the experience of the rider and their history together]

Rider Name:
Alesha
Age:
27-36 - you choose
Gender:
Female
Eye Colour:
Dark brown
Hair Colour:
Black, bleached straw blonde.
Build:
Curvy

Attire: Faded purple sweater, cream jodhpurs and tall brown riding boots with a traditional wraparound side saddle skirt. Also with a long, weighted cane to act as the ‘right leg’ wrapped tightly in brown leather.
Experience:
Office duties (paperwork, bookings and finances), general yard duties. Five years riding, three of those almost solely side saddle. Focuses on flatwork and hacking, but does jump a bit.

History:
Alesha worked at a riding school for a handful of years, both in the office and assisting kids on the yard, before Kiri turned up. Kiri was being sold because her owner was moving overseas, and Alesha had always liked side saddle, so she chose to buy her. Kiri has had two homes and is Alesha’s first horse. The mare, while young, was already backed, had some show experience and was a very sweet horse. The two have been together for the past two years, helping and improving each other at their own pace.

#2

Horse Name: Archie
Age: 9
Height: 16.3hh
Breed:
Hanoverian
Gender: Stallion
Colour: Bright Chestnut
Markings: Small star, coronet, partial coronet and pastern with a few birdcatchers
Genetics: ee/aa/nf
Discipline:  English hunting, jumping and some eventing. Junior classes. Doesn't compete much but regularly ridden.
Tack: Dutch gag bit, reins on last ring and a flash noseband with a running martingale. Forward cut, GP saddle with padded knee roll. Pink cotton saddle pad with a sheepskin riser.

General Manners and Under Saddle:
[Ask if you want my input. I’m more than happy to give you my draft personalities. Otherwise you can choose but keep in mind the experience of the rider and their history together]

Rider Name:
Chloe
Age:
5-8 - you choose
Gender:
Female
Eye Colour:
Blue
Hair Colour:
Golden Blonde
Build:
Slim

Attire: Plain pink cotton t-shirt and lilac jodhpurs with pink polka dot Wellington boots.
Experience:
Yard chores and horse handling. Riding since she was barely three. Enjoys jumping and hacking over schooling, but does flatwork anyway.

History:
Chloe was basically raised on a yard run by her family, helping to mix feeds and pick out feet before she could lift a saddle. She wants to take her BHS exams when she’s old enough. Archie was a horse her grandfather rescued as a prematurely backed three year old. He spent a long time rejecting people, and was unpredictable at best to ride but he developed a soft spot for Chloe, and is now the only person he really allows to ride him. Though a talented horse, Archie has only ever competed in junior classes but he looks forward to his rides with Chloe daily. The family has pretty much given up on making him an event horse; he just belongs to their little girl.

#3 DreamCatcher-Stable

Horse Name: Dakota
Age: 8
Height: 13.1hh
Breed:
Shetland Pony Cross

Gender: Mare
Colour: Fading Black Blanket Appaloosa with sun bleaching in the mane and tail.
Markings: Wide blaze with speckling, small spotted blanket on croup, leeching into tail, two fetlocks and two partial coronets.
Genetics: Ee/aa/nLp/PATN
Discipline: English dressage and gymkhana. Junior classes. Competes intermittently throughout the year but ridden almost daily.
Tack: Snaffle mouth and a cavesson noseband with white piping and white browband. Straight cut dressage saddle with long straps and a short girth. Quilted white saddle cloth with pink piping.
Current Clip:
Bib clip. Done late October, but already growing out a little because of thicker coat.
General Manners and Under Saddle:
[Ask if you want my input. I’m more than happy to give you my draft personalities. Otherwise you can choose but keep in mind the experience of the rider and their history together]

Rider Name:
Haylee
Age:
9-12 – you choose
Eye Colour:
Hazel
Hair Colour:
Copper red
Build:
Short

Attire: White shirt with stock and a black show jacket with pink piping. White jodhpurs, also with pink piping, and tall black boots. Also with a child’s riding crop in matching pink with a star pad on the end.
Experience:
Basic horse care only. Six years of riding experience, both in lessons and out, including some low-level local competition. Focuses on flatwork and enjoys the occasional hack but doesn’t really like jumping.

History:
Haylee started with taking riding lessons at a local stable. Her mother had always enjoyed riding but hadn’t owned a horse since before Haylee was born. Dakota was bought at an auction when another stable went out of business. The pony is a bit cheeky but clever and well schooled which enabled Haylee to get into some showing and novice dressage competitions. Dakota is on livery, as Haylee is still new to owning a horse, but they’ve now been together for four years.

#4

Discipline: English all rounder. A bit of schooling, jumping and hacking. Mainly leisure riding but competes on occasion.
Tack: English hackamore bridle with curved shanks, decorated noseband and no browband. Forward cut GP saddle with padded knee rolls. Sheepskin saddle pad, quilted and dyed blue.
Current Clip:

Rider Name:
Olivia
Age:
20-24 – you choose
Eye Colour:
Grey-green
Hair Colour:
Ashy blonde
Build:
Slender

Attire: Pale blue camisole and cut off denim shorts under a white gauze tunic over-shirt with a pair of waterproof, padded muck out boots.
Experience:
Volunteering on a variety of yards from riding schools to competition stables, all kinds of yard duties and managing worming schedules, medication and other logistics. Owned a pony as a child and fostered a youngster while in high school, who was later rehomed. Studying equine science with a look to becoming a vet. Has completed BHS examinations 1 and 2. Enjoys bringing on horses; a variety of flatwork, groundwork, hacking and jumping but not really into competing.

History:
Olivia helped out at a riding stable to earn lessons before her grandmother While helping at an animal shelter, Olivia fostered a yearling taken from a bad home. She brought him on herself, whilst still in school, and he was eventually well enough to be adopted. Some time later, working at a polo yard as well as a vet clinic to help pay for college, she met Vega, an emergency patient no one claimed. Olivia helped with his care and they clicked together so when he was discharged, she adopted him. She's always used a hackamore as he hates anything pressing on his mouth. They’ve been together just over three years and she’s taught him most of what he knows, but they mainly enjoy a leisurely life.

#5 becki-moorcroft

Horse Name: Pandora
Age: 4
Height: 15.3hh

Morgan Horse

Genetics: Ee/AAt/nZ/nSpl

General Manners and Under Saddle:
[Ask if you want my input. I’m more than happy to give you my draft personalities. Otherwise you can choose but keep in mind the experience of the rider and their history together]

Rider Name:
Roscoe
Age: 50-60 – you choose
Eye Colour:
Dark blue
Hair Colour:
Reddish brown. Beginning to grey (also has a beard)
Build:
Stocky

Attire: Red/orange checked shirt, jeans and old rodeo belt. Traditional cowboy boots with star spurs and Stetson. Also with a length of lasso rope and a walking cane
Experience:
Years of ranch work, cattle driving and backing as well as a bit of rodeo. Not really big on the books or paperwork. Only ever ridden western and lived in a saddle since he was a boy. Considers himself a working ranch hand, but has trained champion cutting horses and been in the ring himself a few times.

History:
Roscoe has worked with many horses over the years and one of his favourites – a horse he worked with for years – was put down after an accident out on the trails. The same accident banged up his knee, and though he can ride and work fine, too much strain makes it twinge. His family wanted him to work with quieter horses after that, but he’s stubborn, so he bought Pandora at auction. She was just started, so he finished backing her and has been bringing her on since, aiming at developing her natural cow instinct. She’s young and sprightly but quite respectful of Roscoe’s limits and he loves her spirit. They’ve only been together eight months.

#6 Blackhills-EC

Horse Name: Oscar (Ozzie)
Age: 3
Height: 15hh
Breed:

Gender: Stallion
Colour: Sooty liver flaxen chestnut sabino

Genetics: ee/Aa/ff/StySty/nSb

Tack: Polyester dark red rope halter. White long line made of yachting braid with a swivel snap. Suede and leather bareback pad with latigo straps and a cotton girth
Current Clip:
None
General Manners and Under Saddle:
[Ask if you want my input. I’m more than happy to give you my draft personalities. Otherwise you can choose but keep in mind the experience of the rider and their history together]

Rider Name:
Kian
Age:
17-22 – you choose
Eye Colour:
Amber brown
Hair Colour:
Brown
Build:
Lean

Attire: Plain red t-shirt with a grey-blue hooded sweater, faded jeans and sneakers. Also with a Parelli ‘carrot stick and savvy string’ training aid
Experience:
Yard duties, horse care and basic studies of natural horsemanship and equine behaviour. Has been looking into different natural methods and not a just one. Been riding three years and still learning, though capable. Enjoys working with a horse from the ground as well as hacking. Not really show oriented.

History:
Kian lived in a house that backed onto a private yard and would frequently see the horses over the fence. A group of friends rented the seven stables, and they taught him yard chores and about natural techniques when he said he wanted to learn. Kian bought Oscar as a youngster from a private seller, prompted by his uncle. He was able to join in with the rent at the private stable and they helped get him started. They’ve worked mainly from the ground, building a bond and are starting to work with girths, but Oscar isn’t truly backed at this point. Kian has had him for a year and a half.

(Please bear in mind, that while I will consider all offers on Archie and Vega, these were made to help me raise points, primarily, so I'm more likely to accept an offer with points. Any art offered will have to be completed before you get the characters).
(Also, didn't think of this, but: I'm not really interested in created breeds other than Faime or Wiltshire Spaniels right now, and just in horses or dogs. I've never gotten into epic fantasy breeds, Shedus, Tokotas or the like, so they're not likely to tempt me).
(I reserve the right to not accept any offer).
(Those with ABs have been set higher to encourage bidding).

As always, any questions or concerns, please do ask!

DEADLINE: 30th November.

Gah - this has been in the works for days now. It took a good couple of days, in between a heck load of work, to get them all drawn up, and then it was more time to get the profiles out there. Thanks to the person who encouraged me to put up character adoptions like this - it was actually a lot of fun. Though I kind of love them all and am already missing them a bit XD

Regarding the art - I did a basic sketch that started with Archie and I edited it a bit for Dakota (the only pony). After that, I drew up a basic lineart, which I then duplicated, making individual edits to each one. They all have different manes and tails, there are two basic face shapes and three styles of legs/feathering - discounting the pony. The tack was all drawn without any sketches - just straight onto the horses and everything is coloured individually (ie, the tack layers can 'come off' or swap around). And I was just in the mood for something a little cartoony.
