Running: Starting Date: 7-October-13. Deadline: 4-November-13 :new: extended to 10th!
Event Type: Costume
Class/Classes: Costume and a Swap Class
Restrictions: Flat colour Only

A NOTE ON JUDGING

There will be three rounds of juding for this event, all through viewer polls. there will be two rounds of four entries, and only a single image will be taken on from each round to result in a head-to-head for the final round. The entries shown in each of the first two rounds were grouped together by a random generator - I had no hand in the groups.

Each round will be up for two days. The first will be posted shortly and the next will be posted on Sunday evening. The final will be posted on Tuesday evening.

As always, you're free to vote for whoever you wish, and you're able to use mule accounts to vote more than once, for the same or different entry, but I do encourage you to try bearing the aim of the event in mind when casting your vote. And as before, I also encourage you to leave a brief comment when voting, just to let the various artists know why you may have chosen their piece, because everyone likes feedback.

That's all. Good luck everyone, and thanks in advance to all those who help judge!

UPDATE
The majority of people who responded to the colouring issue voted for flatcolours, so the show will continue as it started; flat colour entries only. If you wanted shaded entries, don't worry, my next costume event is already planned out and will run either around Christmas or in the New Year. That event will be for fully shaded entries, so keep an eye out then!

<s>Currently this show is running as flat colour only. Is that what you guys want or do you want this event to run as a shaded entry show? Please tell me asap either way I'm happy to run it as either, so its important that it caters to what you lot want. If I just hear from just one person, I'll go with them, so speak up if you feel strongly about it.</s>

A lot of debate went into this, because there's a few different kinds of costume shows I really wanted to run, and I couldn't just merge them all together, so this is the one I've chosen to run now, since Halloween is on the horizon, and its likely another costume event will run in the near future featuring my other classes and ideas.

A lot of people really liked the format of the recent Turn Back Time Mini Event, so I've stuck with that for this. Its another flat colour only show all judged through poll voting.

Hallows Eve HARPG Event - A Halloween Costume Show

Class 1: Costume Class

Costumes should be Halloween inspired, but there is some freedom for creativity. Entering in a knight's costume with little skulls on the horse blanket is allowed. Entering as a faerie is allowed. Entering in a Christmas santa outfit is not allowed. Wrong holiday.

Entering as something from mythology or folklore - like a headless horseman or as medusa - are both permitted, but try to avoid dressing up as characters from books or films. Part of this is creating your own Halloween costume.

Class 2: Swap Class

I've never seen one of these before in HARPG, so bear with me.

Bascially, you enter in pairs, but this is not a collab opportunity. Two stables enter a rider and a horse each, and they each draw their own entry. But, you draw your own rider on your partner's horse. The same costume rules as in Class 1 apply, but you can experiment with matching or complimentary costumes, too.

...
Obviously I like being realistic, so if you enter, consider which of your horses would be okay with the crazy costumes you dream up, and for Class 2, which would be okay being ridde/handled by a stranger, too.

Ridden entries are encouraged, but there is nothing wrong with having your entry in-hand or driven either. Judging is based on the costume among other things, so however you feel it is best showcased.

If you have an idea and you're not sure, please ask!

Rules

:skull: All entries must be Flat Coloured Only!
-This is not an excuse for laziness, though. There are a lot of colours in a horse's coat.
:skull: Try to keep backgrounds simple, but they may be shaded in some form to provide some depth to the entry.

:skull: No use of linearts, commissioned/free or otherwise. No tracing. Use of references is permitted and encouraged. If used they must be linked/credited in the entry comments.
:skull: This journal must be linked in the entry comments, along with a clear indication of the class and horse entered.
:skull: No photomanips or model horse art. Drawings, paintings only.

:skull: Any breed, natural and un-natural can enter.
    - Un-natural breeds may not use hocus pocus or anatomical alteration (like wings) to unfair advantage.
    - Obviously pegasi having wings can be used as a part of the costume aspect and this is not 'unfair'. Same applies to Nordies and potions and other breeds where appearance only can be used as part of the costume/effect.
:skull: You do not need to be registered with the HARPG but must have an active RP stable.
:skull: You may enter both classes with the same or different horses and riders. A horse and rider pair may only enter a single class once.
:skull: Costumes should be of your own creation, not taken from books, films, TV etc. If something in existance inspired you in the creation of your costume, please credit and link it.
:skull: Costumes must be safe! By this, I mean they cannot obstruct either the horse or rider's vision, and any trailing parts should not be able to get tangled around the horse's legs.

Entering

No preregistration needed. Just throw me a link when you're ready.

Comments should contain the following information as a minimum:
Stable:
Horse:
Rider/Handler:
Junior/Senior:

Classes are not split into age groups in reality, but so that kids can compete, you can assume there is a separation. Juniors are 6-16 and Seniors are 16+. No one under 6 may compete.

The above applies to humans only. Horses may be as young as 6months and still enter, though they should be at least 4 for anything other than in-hand.

In the swap class, stating your partner's stable, rider and your own horse is also required.

Deadline

Currently the show is set to finish on November 4th. This gives you about a month to get entries in. It can be extended a little if people really need it. Ideally, as a Halloween event, judging needs to begin soon after.

Judging

As with the TBT event, this will all be judged through viewer polls. The two classes will be kept separate, but entries will be randomly selected for each round of judging and you will all be able to cast votes to determine the semi finalists, finalists and winner.

With two classes, it is possible that two polls will run at once.

When casting your vote, ideally the following things should be kept in mind:
- Costume. How creative is it? Is it safe? Does it fit the theme?
- Use of flat colours. This can apply to the horse and the costume. How well are the colours used? Has a lot of thought gone in?
- Finished picture - composition, anatomy, pose...

A Note on Judging

Again, I'm aware that I have no control over the judging, so the only real rule I'll put down is that you don't go around asking people to vote for you. By all means advertise the event and encourage voters, but who they vote for as a result should be their decision.

You may vote for your own entry, and you may use mule accounts to vote for your entry again, or for another entry. Its entirely in your hands, but if you could keep some idea of the show's theme in mind, that would be good.

Prizes

1st in Costume class: A flat colour painting of the winning horse and rider, in their costume, with a ribbon or two of the new Page Ponies if desired.

1st in Swap class: A flat colour painting of the winning horse and rider pairs (on each other's horses), in costume with a ribbon each or two Page Ponies each if desired.

--If anyone wishes to donate a prize, please leave a comment or note me about it :)--
