So, we finally have a winner, and I'm happy to say ReQuay took first place by a wide margin with her entry of AVS Prince Nazeer El Shaklan

Congrats, ReQuay!

A Halloween Costume event is currently running with the same format as this show - flat colours only and all judged through viewer polls (at least, that's the plan so far, though we may try to have less rounds) - so if you're interested in that, hop on over HERE and check it out.

If you have any further ideas for themes for mini shows of this nature, please share them; it would be nice to keep small events like this ongoing in the future :)

...
Okay, each entry below, in the order you see them was given the numbers 1-18. Those numbers were then converted to the letters A-R. Using rng.org, they were all assigned new numbers from 1-18. 18 entries fit nicely into 3 rounds of 6, so the rng was run yet again and the first 6 numbers it pulled back up were selected for round 1. That is how the entries in the current poll were chosen. Not by me.

Obviously, it would be nice for you to keep the aim of the show in mind when voting, but I understand that you may want to support a friend, just have a favourite without reason, and may employ mule accounts to vote for yourself. The category on judging is still below for those who want to read up on it again.

It would still be nice for those voting to leave a comment on why they chose the piece they did, as this would probably be nice for the artist and provide some good feedback for the others.

If you liked this event, keep a watch out for a new show in a similar layout coming up very soon!

...

Okay, so this idea was sparked a while back when I drew my NWB mare, Uisce, as a foal. Originally I was thinking it could be an NWB event, but then I figured, why not let anyone in? Hence this journal.

The Event
Draw your horse as they were as a foal. That's basically all this is. The only thing is, all the horses in your entries should be flat coloured.

Flat colours are often seen (I think) in the HARPG as a lack of effort, but good flat colours make better 'finished' artwork and learning to do detailed flats comes with practice. Not many HARPG shows cater to this, so here's one that does. Backgrounds may be simply shaded for some depth, but your horses must be flat coloured only. You can take it as a chance to practice or learn, or just for fun. Consider how many shades and colours actually go into a single coat and experiment :).

So that's the event.

*This event is not sponsored or sanctioned by any group on DA.*
If you want to get behind it in any way - ie, breed groups offering extra points for entering, or helping with advertising, just comment here or note me about it :)

Rules
>The horse you choose must be an adult/fully grown horse in real time. Characters that are still foals, or were foals that you've aged in the last five minutes cannot take part. This is about turning back time and showing a piece of the past for one of your horses.
>The foal/Dam should be flat coloured, but small highlights/shadows are permitted - such as eye reflections, shine on the hooves or mane etc.

> All artwork in the entries must be your own. No commissioned or free linearts etc.
> Stables do not have to be part of the HARPG but should be active
> Full body, half body and headshots all allowed
> Backgrounds are allowed and encouraged, but keep them simple
> Refined or more sketchy linearts are both allowed
> Showing your horse's mother is encouraged

> Please link this journal in your entry comments so others can find it

Deadline
I will take on new entries, that will be shown in this journal, until the 4th of October. That's just about a month. After that, juding will begin.

Judging
The event will be judged by you guys. Through a series of polls, you get to vote on which entries reach the next round and which is ultimately the winner.

Following the deadline, each entry will be assigned a number, and I will put all the numbers in a hat (or whatever the hell I can find in the house, really). A few numbers will be picked at random. How many will depend on the number of entries. The entries they belong to will all be posted in a poll on my profile page, where you will be able to vote on them, over the course of 2 days.

The entry, or two entries with the most votes after 2 days, both go on to the next round, and a new set of entries will be posted for voting. Eventually, the winning entries will be posted against each other for the winner of the show.

The number of rounds will depend on how many people enter, but regardless of number, the winner will be up to poll votes.

A Note on Judging
Obviously with Polls, there is very little control at all, so I'm not going to try putting rules down. You may vote for your own entry and you may use mule accounts to vote for your entry. I don't recommend it, but I can't stop you creating accounts just to vote again, either. I ask that you please don't go around spamming people to vote for you. Posting a journal encouraging people to vote in general for their own favourite is a great thing, though, so I defintiely encourage that.

And for those who are voting, it would be great if you could consider some of the event rules - ie, who used their flat colours well, who seemed to learn or put in effort? Who designed an awesome mother for their horse, or drew a horse you recognise really accurately as a baby? They're all good criteria, but it may just come down to the entry that catches your eye or sticks with you, so vote however you think is best.

Lastly, with the judging through polls, I'm sure all those entering would be really grateful if people who vote comment on the poll as to why they made the choice they did. We all like feedback and it can help someone improve. I know many of you won't, but this is just to let you know that leaving some feedback is welcome and appreciated :)

Prize
I have sketched up a foal as the prize for the winning entry. When I know who that is, the sketch will be finished off into a soft shaded, digital painting of the horse the winner depicted as a foal.
The sketch of the prize can be seen here:

If anyone wants to donate other prizes to this, you're more than welcome to do so, please just comment here or note me about it :)

All Entries
